At the heart of effective storytelling is mindset. Before undertaking the development of any new piece of content, remember that:
- Collaboration is the key to success

The best stories often originate from a cross-collaborative effort among business units. True – creating this type of cooperation is not always easy. I’m sure most of us have a nightmarish story on the pitfalls of collaboration we could share.
- Communication habits can make or break your story
I try to encourage others, and remind myself, to relate with friendliness, patience and a spirit of “were all in this together” when it comes to working with difficult teams or individuals.
- You need to be a cheerleader for your content!
Also, and this is crucial, don’t contain your enthusiasm! When colleagues understand why you’re excited about the information (story) you seek, they’re likely to not only help you develop the story, but also help you promote it afterwards as they feel included as a valuable part of the process. And of course, they are!
